Safety
Flying a single engine aircraft has inherent risks that simply can’t be eliminated. But the builder of N89ZZ, a former US Navy nuclear engineering officer, has made every effort to minimize or mitigate those risks. In addition to the features noted elsewhere on this site (like dual power buses, redundant navigation systems, and investment in a top-of-the-line engine and systems), the following are notable safety features. Installed equipment includes:
GMC507 Blue Button - pressing the blue “LVL Mode” button on the GMC507 AFCS control panel will engage the autopilot to return the plane to straight and level flight
Angle of Attack suite - Glareshield mounted Garmin GI260 AOA Indicator utilizing a regulated heat GAP26 sensor keeps the pilot apprised of margin to stall attitude
Upgraded Cleaveland static pressure ports
AE Fuel Guardian optical sensor-enabled low fuel level detection system provides an independent method to detect a low fuel condition
ACK E-04 ELT
Aithre Shield EX3.0 CO Detector and Supplemental O2 Pressure Detector
Aithre O2 Pressure Sensor
AirpathC2300 whiskey compass
Halon fire extinguisher installed between the crew seats
Emergency egress tool installed in pilot’s footwell
Aircraft Specialty wing root fuel filter kit which provides two Holley brand 40-micron fuel filters installed in the wing root of each respective wing instead of the standard single fuel filter installed in center console
Andair PX375-TC electric boost pump which is fitted in case of failure of the engine-driven fuel pump
All rigid fuel lines in the cabin are made from 5052 aluminum and are provided by Aircraft Specialty
All flexible fuel lines forward of the firewall utilize conductive Teflon hoses with stainless steel fittings and integral Milspec fire sleeve from Aircraft Specialty
Upgraded flexible steel brake lines provided by Aircraft Specialty
Milspec Royco 782 brake fluid
Parking brake installed on left cockpit bulkhead
Upgraded AeroLEDs Pulsar strobe and position lights
Wig-wag taxi and landing lights by Flyled
Upgraded MATCO nose wheel axle
Koger Sunshade
Antisplat Utlimate Gustlock and lightweight wheel chock
Desiccant spark plugs are fitted whenever the plane is expected to be idle for more than two weeks
A desiccant pack is installed in the aircraft’s intake plenum after every flight and the exhaust and breather tubes are sealed
